The San Jose Earthquakes announced Monday on its website that the club has agreed to terms with its first-ever Designated Player, former Hull City midfielder Geovanni.

The 30-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder arrived in San Jose on Sunday evening to meet with team officials and passed a physical Monday morning.

Previously, Geovanni played with Hull City of the English Premier League for the last two seasons, but was released from his contract due to the Tigers' relegation. He also played one season for Manchester City (2007-08), four for Portuguese club Benfica (2003-2006) and two for FC Barcelona (2001-03).

During his time at Hull, Geovanni scored 13 times in 65 appearances and led the club with eight goals during the 2008-09 season.
