Barca's Abidal to have surgery on liver tumor on Friday

MADRID (Reuters) -- Barcelona defender Eric Abidal is to have surgery on a tumour in his liver on Friday, the La Liga club said.

The 31-year-old France international will be operated on at a clinic in the Catalan capital, the club said on their website (www.fcbarcelona.cat) on Tuesday, without giving further details and asking that the player's privacy be respected.
