Asamoah Gyan and Ghana lost in the semifinals of the 2012 African Cup of Nations.

Ghana has included 10 African Cup of Nations debutants in its final 23-man squad for when the tournament starts this month.

Espanyol's Wakasu Mubarak, Evian's Mohammed Rabiu, FC Porto's Christian Atsu and on-loan Juventus striker Richmond Boakye were all included in their first African Cup squad.

Boayke and another debutant, Emmanuel Clotey, join captain Asamoah Gyan as the strikers.

As expected, Marseille's Andre Ayew did not make coach Kwesi Appiah's final selection after he was excluded for failing to arrive in camp in United Arab Emirates in time to have an injury assessed.

Ghana will also go to South Africa without AC Milan pair Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari and Real Madrid's Michael Essien.

Ghana is grouped with Congo, Mali and Niger. The tournament starts Jan. 19.
