Striker Bafetimbi Gomis scored his 12th league goal of the season as Lyon won 2-0 at Valenciennes on Friday to provisionally move above Paris Saint-Germain at the top of the French league.

After midfielder Gueida Fofana gave Lyon the lead in the eighth minute with a firm strike from just outside the penalty area, Gomis turned in Alexandre Lacazette's cross from the right to double the lead.

Lyon leads PSG by three points and Marseille by four points ahead of this weekend's matches, but PSG can reclaim first place from Lyon on goal difference if it beats Lille at home on Sunday.

Marseille travels to play Rennes on Saturday.
