COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (AP) -- Colorado Rapids defender Diego Calderon is expected to miss four to five months after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee.

He underwent the procedure Thursday in Denver after injuring his knee Saturday during a 1-0 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy. He was clearing a shot off the goal line in the first half when he collided with a goalpost.

Calderon joined the Rapids in the offseason from Liga de Quito in his native Ecuador, where he is a member of the national team.
