David Beckham suspended by French league's disciplinary committee

David Beckham and Paris Saint-Germain are closing in on the Ligue 1 title.

David Beckham and Paris Saint-Germain are closing in on the Ligue 1 title.

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu and midfielder Marco Verratti have been suspended for two games and veteran midfielder David Beckham for one after all were sent off at Evian last weekend.

The French league's disciplinary committee announced the bans late Thursday.

Beckham received a straight red for a dangerous raised foot on Youssef Adnane, but likely escaped a longer ban because he did not make contact with the Evian striker.

Verratti picked up two yellow cards and remonstrated angrily with the referee, while Sirigu was red-carded after the final whistle after confronting several players. Evian striker Saber Khlifa also received a two-game ban.

All three PSG players will miss Sunday's home game against Valenciennes, where PSG could clinch the title if Marseille draws or loses on Saturday.
