Red Bulls use huge second half to breeze by Houston

RED BULLS 4, DYNAMO 1

HOUSTON (AP) -- Thierry Henry scored the go-ahead goal in the 47th minute, and Jonathan Steele had a goal and an assist to help the New York Red Bulls beat the Houston Dynamo 4-1 on Sunday.

The Red Bulls (13-9-6) took advantage of a short-handed Houston lineup to score three second-half goals, becoming the third road team to win at BBVA Compass Stadium since it opened in 2012.

Eric Alexander, Jonathan Steele and Lloyd Sam also scored for New York, which became the first team in the series to win on the road. Since 2006, New York was just 0-4-3 at Houston.

Jason Johnson scored for Houston (10-10-7).

IMPACT 4, REVOLUTION 2

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- Patrice Bernier converted two penalty kicks in the first half and Marco DiVaio also scored twice to lead Montreal.

The Impact (13-7-6), playing short-handed for the final 85 minutes after goalkeeper Matt Reis was issued a red card, extended their unbeaten streak to four matches (3-0-1). Reis was penalized for a hand tackle on DiVaio while attempting to retrieve a loose ball in the penalty box.

Diego Fagundez and Kelyn Rowe scored for New England (10-10-7), which snapped a three-match unbeaten streak (2-0-1).

Bernier's second penalty kick put Montreal ahead 2-1 in the 33rd minute after the Revolution's Jose Goncalves received a yellow card for pushing Felipe Martins down inside the penalty box. DiVaio extended the lead in first-half stoppage time and made it 4-1 with his 17th goal in the 55th minute.

EARTHQUAKES 1, UNION 0

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Shea Salinas scored in the 15th minute to lead San Jose.

Sam Cronin had the assist for the Earthquakes (10-11-7), who won their sixth consecutive home match.

Goalkeeper Zac MacMath and the defense kept the game close for the Union (10-9-9), turning away more than a dozen attempts on goal.

Earthquakes midfielder Rafael Baca was given a second yellow card, forcing San Jose to play a man down for the final 33 minutes.

The Union remained in fourth place in the Eastern Conference while the Earthquakes stayed in eighth in the West.

CHIVAS USA 1, DC UNITED 0

CARSON, Calif. (AP) -- Erick Torres scored his seventh goal of the season as Chivas USA beat D.C. United.

Chivas' win was its second in four games, matching the club's total from its previous 20 matches.

After a scramble in front of the goal in the 51st minute, Edgar Mejia sent a cross into the middle of a congested penalty area. The ball deflected off two United players and fell to Torres, who fired a shot past goalie Bill Hamid.

Torres' goal was his fifth in the last four games and he leads Chivas (6-15-7) in goals despite playing just nine games.

Chris Pontius played the final 25 minutes for United (3-19-5) in his first appearance since July 7. Pontius, who led DC in goals last season, missed seven games due to a hamstring injury.
