Germany forward Miroslav Klose (11) will miss his nation's upcoming friendlies against Italy and England. He is tied with Gerd Muller for Germany's all-time goals record, 68.

MUNICH (AP) - Lazio striker Miroslav Klose will miss Germany's upcoming friendlies against Italy and England because of a shoulder injury.

Klose picked up the knock in Sunday's 1-1 club draw with Parma. The 35-year-old needs one goal to become Germany's top scorer of all time. He and Gerd Mueller are level with 68.

Defender Per Mertesacker will also be absent when the Germans face Italy in Milan on Friday.

Germany coach Joachim Loew says the Arsenal defender is still recovering from the flu and will join the team when it travels to England for Tuesday's match at Wembley.

Mertesacker's Arsenal teammate and midfielder Mesut Ozil has recovered from the same illness and is expected to feature against the Italians.
