BARCELONA, Spain (AP) - Defender Mikel Gonzalez scored twice to help Real Sociedad to a 3-1 win at home over third-division Racing Santander in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Sociedad picked Racing apart in the first half with attacks from the wings by Gonzalo ''Chory'' Castro, who found Gonzalez for a close-range finish in the third minute at Anoeta Stadium.

Racing almost leveled through a free kick from Andreu Guerao that goalkeeper Enau Zubikarai palmed onto his crossbar.

Two minutes later, Castro provided an expert touch to turn a lob from Mexican forward Carlos Vela into a cross for Gonzalez to head home in the 34th.

Vela curled in Sociedad's third in the 62nd, but Mahamadou Kone gave Racing hope for next week's return leg by scoring in the 83rd.
