LONDON (AP) - Thirteen retired or serving police officers have been identified as suspects in the investigation into the Hillsborough disaster.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission says 11 of the suspects have already been questioned relating to a range of offenses, including manslaughter as well as misconduct in a public office and perverting the course of justice. The other two will be interviewed soon.

In Britain's worst sporting disaster, 96 Liverpool football fans were killed in a crush at the Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield during the FA Cup semifinal match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest in April 1989.

A new inquest was ordered after the High Court in London quashed the original accidental death verdicts after secret documents examined by an independent panel determined there had been a police cover-up.

The inquest is set to open on Monday.
