QPR finished in fourth place last season in the English League Championship, totaling 80 points. It was a strong enough showing to earn a promotion to the Premier League for the upcoming season after prevailing in the Championship playoff. Charlie Austin led the team in scoring, with 19 goals. Bobby Zamora, who netted the goal that saw QPR through to the Premiership, and David Hoilett tied for the team lead with four assists apiece.

In the wake of QPR's promotion, the club saw more high-profile players join the club than depart. The team added Mauricio Isla on loan and signed longtime Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, though QPR lost Ravel Morrison and Yossi Benayoun.
