Jurgen Klinsmann might have refrained from calling up players still involved in the MLS Playoffs for the U.S.' recent friendlies, but one member of his squad still had a huge cup game to come home to.
And though Mix Diskerud's Rosenborg lost their Norweigan Cup final match to Molde 4-2, the American midfielder did come through with this absolute belter of a goal in the 18th minute:
Molde's win technically earns their American Josh Gatt some silverware, but the forward is still recovering from the knee injury he suffered this summer and did not dress for the match. This is the third time Molde has won the trophy, with the last coming in 2005.
Rosenborg, meanwhile, was going for their first triumph in the Cup in a decade. The game finishes off what was a tough season for Diskerud's team, as they finished a mere one point behind Strømgodset in the league, denying them a chance at qualifying for next year's UEFA Champions League. However, they will make the qualifying rounds for the 2014-2015 UEFA Europa League.
The cup win means Molde will join Rosenborg in that competition, despite finishing sixth in the league. Also of note to hardcore MLS nerds: former Columbus Crew midfielder Emmanuel Ekpo started and played the full 90 in midfield for the now-Norweigian Cup winners.
