Terrence Boyd loves America, so is it really that much of a surprise that he marked Thanksgiving Day with a goal in the Europa League?

Boyd, the U.S. national team's 22-year-old German-American forward, continued his prolific second season for Rapid Vienna with a first-half goal in his club's 2-1 victory over Thun at Ersnt-Happel Stadion in Vienna, where Boyd and the USA fell to Austria nine days ago. Former D.C. United Designated Player Branko Boskovic scored the winning goal for Rapid Vienna after Thun had drawn level, keeping the Austrian side alive in its quest to reach the knockout stage.

Highlights from the match are below:

Boyd opened the scoring in the 17th minute by latching onto a ball from Marcel Sabitzer and tapping home with the outside of his right foot to snap a brief two-game goal drought. He now has 11 goals in all competitions, four of which have come in the Europa League, and is well on his way to topping his 17-goal output from a season ago.

With the win, Rapid Vienna trails Dynamo Kyiv by a point for second place in Group G, and the two go head-to-head in Ukraine in the finale of the group stage on Dec. 12.

USA down a spot to 14th in FIFA rankings

Boyd wasn't the only American spending Thanksgiving on the pitch, as Brad Friedel and Aron Johannsson also received Europa League starts. The 42-year-old Friedel backstopped Tottenham to a clean sheet and 2-0 victory at Norwegian side Tromso, while Johannsson was kept off the scoresheet in AZ Alkmaar's 2-0 home triumph over Israeli club Maccabi Haifa. Both Americans' teams have cemented their places in the knockout round.
