New U.S. home jersey revealed: Collared white shirt, white shorts, white socks

Collar up or collar down? U.S. Soccer players have that choice with the new “home” kit for 2014, a nearly all-white rendition, save for gray pinstripes and a slight red trim.

The look for both the men’s and women’s teams this year offers up a white polo collar with red trim. The white shirt, shorts and socks have a touch of historic tradition with gray horizontal pinstripes across the body and sleeves, but those stripes have grown quite subtle. In 2013, USA offered up a bold look, both in an all-blue “away” look, but more so in a thick horizontal red-and-white striped uniform.

In the new uniform, red trim to match the collar appears on the end of the sleeves and the USA crest, heavy in blue, is positioned over the heart, per normal. In all, though, this is white, white and plenty more white, befitting a team that will play in the heat of Brazil this summer.

“It’s always an honor to wear the colors of your country, and this summer we will be hard to miss in an all-white look,” U.S. men's captain Clint Dempsey said in a news release.

A new angular and modern number — a USA crest will still rest in the bottom of each number — and name font will appear on the back of the jersey. In a move becoming more common for soccer uniforms, the inside back of the neck includes a blue pennant tab featuring the original 13 stars of the American flag.

The white shorts offer a red stripe on each side, while the all-white socks showcase a blue Nike swoosh, also seen on the shorts and jersey.
