Champions League draw: Bayern, Real Madrid, PSG, Barca avoid each other in quarters
The Champions League quarterfinal draw has yielded some intriguing matchups, and ones that could potentially lead to explosive semifinal and final pairings.
With a stacked final eight featuring storied clubs across Europe, mouth-watering matchups were bound to be picked, which is exactly what took place in Switzerland during Friday's draw.
Defending champion Bayern Munich drew Manchester United; Real Madrid drew 2012-13 Champions League runner-up Borussia Dortmund; Barcelona drew fellow La Liga contender Atletico Madrid; and Paris St.-Germain drew Chelsea for the quarterfinal round.
Bayern, which is just about set to clinch the Bundesliga title (it's still March!), is certainly favored to defeat limping Manchester United, but David Moyes' team will be playing with renewed confidence after completing a two-goal comeback to eliminate Olympiakos in the round of 16.
Barcelona has struggled against Atletico Madrid, which could certainly make a statement by knocking off Lionel Messi & Co. while the two attempt to knock Real Madrid off the Spanish league mountaintop. The two have played to draws in each of their three matchups this season, twice in August's Spanish SuperCup, and once in league play. They're also slated to play in the Spanish Primera's regular-season finale.
As for La Liga-leading Real Madrid, Los Blancos get a rematch of last year's semifinal round, which Dortmund won behind the heroics of Robert Lewandowski (four goals in the first leg) to advance to the final.
Finally, PSG vs. Chelsea pits Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Ligue 1-leading side against Jose Mourinho's EPL-leading Blues in a clash of major personalities and big-spending powerhouses.
The first legs will be played on April 1 and 2, with the return legs slated for April 8 and 9.Which four teams do you see advancing?
