While the home motif for the U.S. men's national team's World Cup jersey went nearly all white in a collared look, color enters the mix in the new Nike-designed away version.
The crew-neck collar top features three horizontal bands mirroring the colors of the American flag. The upper torso and top of the sleeves, also housing the team crest on the chest, feature blue and a white chest band extends over the middle of both sleeves. From there, though, get ready for plenty of red. The cuff of the sleeves and majority of the top feature red. As do the shorts. And the socks.
U.S. captain Clint Dempsey says in a release that he likes the new “patriotic colorway,” calling it a “distinctive design.”
The slim all-red shorts and socks actually match the concept of the home kit, which also has solid colored—albeit white—shorts and socks.
The inside back of the neck contains a pennant tab with 13 red and white stripes, the same one found on the inside of the home jersey. The angular name and number fonts for the back of the jersey were specifically designed for the new home and away kits.
