Jurgen Klinsmann confirms USA will bring 30 players to pre-World Cup camp

Over the last few months there have been a number of murmurs regarding the size of the USA's pre-World Cup camp. Some asserted that Jurgen Klinsmann would take just his final 23-man World Cup squad to Stanford. Others offered that Klinsmann would watch over a 26-to-28 player camp before making his final cuts. There was always the option, too, that Klinsmann would take the maximum of 30, just like Bob Bradley did in 2010, and make seven cuts before the June 2 roster deadline.

Klinsmann took to social media to end all speculation, announcing on his official account that he will indeed take his entire 30-man preliminary roster to Stanford for a two-week camp leading into the May 27 friendly against Azerbaijan:

That should come as welcome news to players on the fringe and who are in need of another strong showing to state their case to Klinsmann and his coaching staff as club seasons wind down. Klinsmann must submit his 30-man preliminary roster to FIFA on May 13, a day before camp is slated to start in California.

At camp, players will be competing for playing time against Azerbaijan at Candlestick Park in San Francisco on May 27 and against Turkey at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. on June 1. After the two-week camp and those two friendlies, Klinsmann will have all the information and observations he will be able to accrue before cutting down his options to a final group of 23 that will head to Brazil.
