2222Nick RimandoGoalkeeper | Club: Real Salt Lake
Unless something strange happens to Tim Howard and Brad Guzan, Rimando won’t see a minute of playing time in the World Cup. He didn’t play at all in qualifying, either, but he still may be one of the best No. 3 goalkeepers heading to the tournament. His laid-back nature makes him perfect for the support role, and he has earned his opportunity after a stellar MLS career with three clubs.
OUTLOOK: To say that the World Cup is essentially a paid vacation would be unfair to both Rimando’s professionalism and the importance of the event, but there’s not much a No. 3 goalkeeper can do to influence results. Rimando can be a good training partner and support for the other two, but that’s about it.
