SI World Cup Preview Issue Cover: Uruguay's Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez completed quite the turnaround this season for Liverpool. With past controversies in the rear-view mirror, Suarez was named the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year, scoring a Premier League-record-tying 31 goals in helping lead Liverpool to the cusp of the championship. And that was after missing five games as he completed his suspension for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in a bizarre incident at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

Suarez has reshaped his image considerably, and he enters the World Cup as one of the top players and a favorite to capture the tournament's Golden Boot. His recent knee surgery has put a scare into Uruguay fans hoping to see Suarez guide La Celeste on another deep World Cup run after a fourth-place finish in 2010, but there's no doubt that when fit, he is one of the world's upper-echelon attacking talents.

Suarez's lasting image from that 2010 World Cup was his intentional handball in the quarterfinals vs. Ghana, one that drew the ire of plenty of fans and pundits, but one that kept Uruguay alive. If the 2014 World Cup is like the rest of his year, he'll manage to provide another lasting image, one that has him gracing the headlines for all the right reasons.
