With the USA trailing Portugal and unable to convert a number of chances, it was going to take something special for the Americans to get back in the game. And did Jermaine Jones ever bring it.

After a corner kick clearance fell to Jones outside the area, the German-American midfielder settled, took a touch to his right, and unleashed an absolute laser from about 25 yards, knotting the vital Group G game at 1-1 in the 64th minute.

The goal came just minutes after Michael Bradley had missed a golden opportunity, having a point-blank chance created by Fabian Johnson cleared off the line by Ricardo Costa.
