Q&A with Ettika owners Ettie Rafaeli and Joey Rafael

The Ettikanista is a fun-loving, spirited woman looking to wrap and woo. She models designs created to empower, seize the spirit and fill the air with a touch of feel-good energy. She relishes in the release of her inner glam guru and loves showing off her stack of stylish accessories! Ettika is jewelry made for the Rock & Roller, Boho Lover and Beach Goer. It’s for the woman who expresses herself through fashion and takes risks with her accessories. They find inspiration from the streets of LA to the lights of Hollywood. You can always find a sun-kissed touch of the LA lifestyle incorporated into each piece.

SwimDaily: Tell me about your company? When did it start?

Ettie Rafaeli: Ettika was started 7 years ago at a small Retail Kiosk in the Century City Mall. The concept at the time was to create customized jewelry. We became popular very quickly, and would have celebrities ask us to customize bracelets for them on the spot! We never imagined that Ettika would take off and become so big, and we’re excited to see it grow even more every day!

SD: What philosophies are important to the success of your company?

ER: We always make sure we are true to the signature Ettika style. We also believe that the customer should always come first and do whatever we can to make sure they are happy with their product.

SD: Where did the name of your company come from?

ER: Ettika was named after Co-Founder, Ettie Rafaeli. Her friends and Family nicknamed her “Ettika” growing up, and it stuck. Ettika was dreamt to life with a few meaningful words in mind: Give. Wear. Stack. Love. Ettika has been a part of the fashion world for over 30 years.

SD: Have you spotted any celebrities wearing you products?

ER: Yes! We’ve had so many celebrities from far and wide wearing our products including, Demi Lovato, Miranda Lambert, Sarah Hyland, Chrissy Teigen, Eva Longoria, Bar Rafaeli, Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, Gwen Stefani, Rachel Bilson, Kendal and Kylie Jenner and many more! We love spotting young celebrity women rocking their Ettika!

SD: What new products are you most excited for?

ER: We’re going to debut some great new products, but we’re most excited for the new cuffs we are adding to our line. They’re different, fun and something we know people will absolutely fall in love with! We tried to incorporate unique color combinations that you wouldn’t typically see, but happen to work really well together.

SD: Where would you like to see your company in 10 years?

ER: We have already seen Ettika grow exponentially and are thankful for every milestone. The jewelry can be found in 2000 retail outlets within the USA alone. We would love to see our company expand into a lifestyle brand that caters to consumers all over the world.  In 10 years from now, we’d love to add shoes, clothing, more jewelry and accessories into the mix.

SD: How has Sports Illustrated Swimsuit impacted your brand?

ER: It’s a huge honor to be a part of this shoot. Last year we were featured on the SI cover and it was absolutely crazy! We felt so lucky. Every time we are asked about press, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit is definitely the first name to pop up.  It has allowed us to expand our consumer base and we couldn’t be happier of the outcome.

SD: What has is been like working with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit? What does your company do to prepare for the Swimsuit year to come?

ER: It is always a pleasure to work with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit! We try to incorporate designs specifically for the upcoming swimsuit year by adding in summer tones, like turquoise, summer toned beads and lots of neon! You can never go wrong with neon!

SD: Where do you see swim trends in 10 years?

ER: Deep-plunge necklines are here to stay, and will definitely still be around as well as the classic black bikini.  You can never go wrong with a black bikini.  We’re sure there will be something to spice it up, like cutouts, add-ons, beading and embellishment.

SD: What does the 50th anniversary of the Swimsuit Issue mean to you?

ER: We’re lucky to be a part of something that is so successful and growing so fast!  Here’s to 50+ more years of Ettika and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.  We hope to continue to be a part of your success story!
