Darcis, who beat Nadal, out of Wimbledon with shoulder injury

After beating Rafael Nadal in one of the greatest Wimbledon upsets, Steve Darcis withdraws with a shoulder injury.

LONDON (AP) -- The player who stunned Rafael Nadal in the first round at Wimbledon, 135th-ranked Steve Darcis of Belgium, has withdrawn from the tournament because of an injured right shoulder.

Darcis pulled out on Wednesday, hours before he was supposed to face Lukasz Kubot of Poland in the second round.

It was a surprising development, given how well Darcis played while ending two-time Wimbledon champion Nadal's 22-match winning streak in straight sets on Monday.

After that victory, by far the biggest of the 29-year-old Darcis' career, he said: "I need to keep my focus. It would be a shame to beat Nadal, then stop there."
