John Isner, who is the highest-ranked American in the tournament, defeated fellow American Marcos Giron in the second match of the day at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

15-year-old Catherine Bellis defeated 12-seed Dominika Cibulkova to become the youngest woman to win a match at the U.S. Open since Anna Kournikova in 1996.
