Winning in five sets is a mark of great endurance and mental strength. But it’s not something you want to have to do in every best of five-set match. Andy Murray has improved his career record in five-set matches by going the distance in his first two matches at Roland Garros this year. He’s proven that he can come back from two sets down and from two sets to one down in his first two rounds and it’s taken him more than seven hours on court to advance to the third round. Murray is getting closer to Novak Djokovic’s five-set record: Two more five-set wins will move him to the top of the list but he’d probably prefer to win a bit more easily as he pursues his first French Open title.
