American Shelby Rogers upset No. 10 Petra Kvitova in a third-round victory at the French Open on Friday.
Rogers, who is ranked No. 108, surged to the lead over Kvitova with a 6–0 win in the first set. She lost the second set on a tiebreaker, 6–7(3), but went on to win the final set, 6–0.
Friday’s win marked her third upset victory as she moves through the tournament after unseating No. 17 Karolina Pliskova in the first round and No. 49 Elena Vesina in the second round. She will advance to the fourth round to face No. 25 Irina-Camelia Begu.
Kvitova, 26, is a two-time Wimbledon Champion and owns 17 WTA titles.
Rogers, 23, reached a career-high ranking of No. 70 in 2014, but her stock fell as she dealt with injuries.
