Results Roundup

• After being close to elimination on Friday, No. 18-seed Sloane Stephens returned to the court on Saturday and defeated Mandy Minella 3-6, 7-6(6), 8-6 to advance to the third round. Stephens saved match point in the second-set tiebreak before the match was called due to rain with the score level at 3-3 in the third set.

Other women's seeds also advanced on Saturday despite multiple rain stoppages, as No. 11-seed Timea Bacsinszky beat Monica Niculescu 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the third round and No. 4-seed Angelique Kerber defeated fellow countrywoman Carina Witthoeft in straight sets, 7-6, 6-1. She'll next face Misaki Doi, who beat Anna-Lena Friedsam 7-6, 6-3 on Day 6.

No. 5-seed Simona Halep advanced to the fourth round on Saturday, defeating No. 26-seed Kiki Bertens 6-4, 6-3 in the first match on Centre Court.

"I'm really happy that I won this match. It was important for me," Halep said after the match. "It was a big challenge before this one. I knew she's in good form and she plays good tennis in this moment. She did a great job in French Open, so she had a lot of confidence before this match. But I went there just to play my best, to be aggressive because I knew that it's the only chance that I can win the match, to be aggressive and to do my game."

• Serena and Venus Williams avoid upset bids on Wimbledon Day 5

• In the men's tournament, No. 9-seed Marin Cilic finished his match that was suspended on Friday, defeating Lukas Lacko 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the fourth round. No. 5-seed Kei Nishikori also reached the fourth round on Saturday, beating Andrey Kuznetsov 7-5, 6-3, 7-5.

While Cilic and Nishikori advanced to the Round of 16, No. 24-seed Alexander Zverev took the court to resume his second round match on Saturday. The 19-year-old was able to pull out the win, beating Mikhail Youzhny 6-4, 3-6, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2. His victory marked the completion of the men's second round of the tournament.

• Watch Wimbledon 2016 through the eyes of the Bryan brothers

"I mean, I warmed up about eight times I think downstairs in the gym. So, you know, obviously it was tough and obviously playing a second round on Saturday still. I have to play tomorrow now. It's not easy schedule," Zverev said after the match. "Roger is in fourth round already, and I'm still playing second round today. You know, it's difficult. But, yeah, I'm just happy to get the win, happy to be in my first third round of Wimbledon here."

• In a shocking upset, American Sam Querrey beat No. 1 and defending champion Novak Djokovic in the third round at Wimbledon on Saturday, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6.

Seeded No. 28, Querrey ended Djokovic's bid for the calendar Grand Slam after Djokovic won the first two majors of the year at the Australian Open and French Open. Djokovic was looking to win his fourth Wimbledon title at the All England Club; Querrey has only made the fourth round at a Grand Slam three other times in his career.

“Well, just congratulation to Sam. He played a terrific match,” Djokovic said after the match. “He serves very well, as he usually does. I think that part of his game was brutal today. He made a lot of free points with the first serve. Just well done. He just overpowered me.”
