Tommy Haas has withdrawn from next week's Monte Carlo Rolex Masters in an effort to adjust his schedule, according to Tennis.com. Haas, who lost in his opening-round match to Ricardas Bernakis 6-3, 6-3 at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston on Thursday, was coming off a remarkable run to the semifinals at the Sony Open in Miami.

In Miami, he defeated No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the third round. Last year at this time, Haas was ranked No. 137. Now he's the oldest player in the top 15. His next scheduled tournament is the BMW Open in Munich at the end of April.

Haas' withdrawal makes room for Ernests Gulbis, who skipped Miami to rest up for the clay season. Gulbis was one of the hottest players during the first quarter of the year, going on a 13-match win streak before losing to Rafael Nadal in the fourth round of Indian Wells. Gulbis, No. 56, is into the main draw of Monte Carlo for the first time since he argued with umpire Mariana Alves on his way to a second-round loss to Milos Raonic in 2011.
