Andy Murray dictates a 57-shot rally with 16-year-old junior at Davis Cup

If you expected Andy Murray to take it easy on Borna Coric, a 16-year-old Croatian junior making his Davis Cup debut on Thursday, then you just don't know Murray. Eight points into their opening Davis Cup match, Coric, who won the U.S. Open boys' title last week, actually earned a break point on Muray's serve. That's when the Brit decided to run what almost looked like a training drill, mixing up his shots to pull Coric all around the court for 57 shots, finally ending when Murray mercifully went for a flat forehand winner down the line. Welcome to the big leagues, kiddo.

Murray won the match 6-3, 6-0, 6-3 but Coric said the first set may have been the best he's ever played.

“It was very tough because I wasn’t used to playing such long rallies and maintaining that kind of level,” he said. “That’s why I dropped in the second set, but then I was 3-1 and 40-30 up in the third. It shows I can play with the best players, but I can’t maintain that level for three or four or maybe five sets.”

“I’ve never played against someone that quick. He was playing like that every point. In juniors they can play like that for three or four games or maybe one set, but then their levels drop. He was playing like that for three sets, non-stop.”

Here's a clip of one of Coric's better moments, when he gets the better of Murray on an angled drop shot.
