Federer, Murray, Berdych among GQ's most stylish athletes

Roger Federer

Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Tomas Berdych are tennis' dapper representatives on GQ's list of the 20 Most Stylish Athletes in 2013.

Federer led the pack, at No. 7. GQ described his style as graceful and effortless:

Federer favors subdued colors and simple menswear mixes, usually anchored by a crisp white shirt, and the timeless kits are what separate him from athlete pack. Even his white Nike-sponsored uniform, with interlocking gold initials, looks more like luxury menswear than any performance piece in play.

Murray checked in at No. 18, thanks to his finely tailored suits, which have seen quite a bit of action this year. He's had to clean himself up on more than one occasion to meet dignitaries and receive the many awards from becoming the first British man to win Wimbledon in 77 years.

That said, this GQ write-up seems like a bit of a backhanded compliment:

"With his ever-present stubble and tousled just-so hair, he may not be the most refined guy on the court, but this is what makes him stand out from the manufactured handsomeness of his competitors."

Still, making this list is quite the accomplishment for Murray, who once showed up at a 2010 player party wearing a sweatshirt as a scarf:

Berdych rounds out the list, at No. 20, completing his quick transformation from awkward and fashion-challenged to the Czech version of a Ken doll. The fact that his girlfriend, Ester Satorova, is a model might explain some of his more daring fashion choices this year. From GQ:

Berdych looks like the love child of Tom Brady and David Beckham (no fanfic, please), and it doesn't hurt that the tennis player dresses with all the panache you'd expect from that duo's stylish pedigree, like mixing every fashionable guy's must-have moto jacket with a shirt and tie and slippers.

Federer, Murray and Berdych are all fine choices, but I was a little surprised Novak Djokovic didn't make the list. The Serb tends to be impeccably dressed off the court and has a great European sense of style.

Then again, maybe GQ noticed what he wore to the Sony Open player party:
