Serena Williams made Time Magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Williams, a 17-time Grand Slam champion and current world No. 1, was also chosen in 2010.

Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade was tapped to write about Williams. Here's a snippet from Wade's essay:

Serena is a friend, but I also look up to her as a fellow athlete. I respect her relentless work ethic, focus, drive and discipline. I understand what it’s like to sustain injuries and the fight it takes to come back from them. I admire her ability to fight and how she has defied the odds with sheer determination and heart.
Li Na was featured in Time's list last year and Novak Djokovic was selected in 2012. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have also been honored in recent years.
