Rory McIlroy's grand plans to propose to Caroline Wozniacki at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve were ruined by -- what else? -- alcohol.

McIlroy revealed how his marriage proposal went down to Global Golf Post:

"We were on a boat on the harbor. It's a funny story because I wanted to do it at the stroke of midnight because a really drunk guy on the boat jumped in and caused a whole commotion. They sent people to dive in to get him he was so drunk. It was a bit of a nightmare."

Instead, McIlroy popped the question after a long-winded explanation once they got back to the hotel room.

"She said yes," he said. "That was the most important thing." Yes it is, Rory. The pair plan to wed in late August this year.
