(SI.com) -- Ball State defeated two-time defending national champion Tennessee Sunday 71-55 in the opening-round of the NCAA women's basketball tourney in Bowling Green, Ky.

The Lady Vols (22-11), seeded fifth, had reached the Sweet 16 every year since the tourney began in 1981-1982.

Ball State, seeded 12th, will face Iowa State in a second-round game.
