Best of Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady in 2000 NBA Slam Dunk Contest

A look back on the 2000 NBA Slam Dunk Contest with Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter

The NBA Slam Dunk Contest is headed to Toronto, and in honor of the trip to Canada, it only seems right to take a look back at one of the greatest dunk contests of all time.

Cousins and Raptors teammates Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter stole the show at the 2000 Dunk Contest, throwing down some unforgettable dunks.

Carter was crowned Dunk Contest champion that year, and McGrady went down in history as one of the best dunkers to never win it all.

Carter recently reminisced on his “first opportunity of fulfilling the dream of being in the dunk contest” in a video with the NBA.

“I felt like I could jump to the moon,” Carter said of his reverse-360 show stopper, which can be seen at the 00:46 mark in the video below.

But the excitement did not stop there. Carter said he wanted to wow the crowd to the point where it would be silent in the arena.

Not only did he dunk the ball, he stuck his arm into the rim and held on. The stunned expressions on everyone's face say it all.

McGrady may not have dangled himself from the rim, but he did execute some pretty impressive moves.

He earned a perfect score of 50 for his spinning two-handed dunk off a self alley-oop, marking his best dunk of the night. You can catch that epic dunk at the 3:26 mark in the video below.

Had Carter not edged him out, he could have easily been crowned champion.

Fans and judges will be looking for some Carter- and McGrady-inspired dunks on Saturday night.
