Angels outfielder Mike Trout leaves Tuesday's game with mid-back discomfort

Angels center fielder Mike Trout left Tuesday's game in Houston with mid-back discomfort, the same injury that caused him to miss the team's last two games, according to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com.

The 22-year-old struck out swinging in the top of the first inning — his American League-leading 64th strikeout of the season — and played defense in the bottom of the inning. He was replaced by Collin Cowgill before the bottom of the second.

Trout underwent stem cell therapy on his back on Monday's off day. He took early batting practice on Tuesday and said he "didn't feel [the injury] at all," before the game, according to MLB.com.

"I was worried about it for a little bit," Trout said before the game, "but I felt good in early BP. I'm in there. That's always good."

The two-time All-Star and 2012 AL Rookie of the Year finished second in AL MVP voting the last two seasons. He is hitting .293 with 11 homers, 38 RBIs and a .929 OPS in 54 games this season.

He missed only five games last season.
