Germany beats Norway in Nordic combined team event

SCHONACH, Germany (AP) Germany won a Nordic combined World Cup team event when Johannes Rydzek held off Norway's Joergen Graabak in the cross-country race on Saturday.

The German team of Eric Frenzel, Tino Edelmann, Bjoern Kircheisen and Rydzek started first after winning the ski jump and maintained their lead by completing the 4x5-kilometer relay in 47 minutes, 54.4 seconds.

Graabak finished 3.9 seconds behind Rydzek. Graabak and teammates Jan Schmid, Haavard Klemetsen and Mikko Kokslien were fourth in the ski jump.

Germany coach Hermann Weinbuch says ''we're happy with the win. Finally we could beat the Norwegians again.''

France came 12 seconds back in third, followed by Japan and Italy, which was fastest on the 4x5K circuit but eighth in the ski jump.

Conditions were difficult, with heavy rain and strong winds.
