Switzerland's Hefti, Baumann win bobsled World Cup race

ALTENBERG, Germany (AP) Switzerland's Beat Hefti and Alex Baumann won a two-man bobsled race for their first World Cup victory of the season on Saturday.

Hefti and Baumann were fastest in the first run and quick enough in the second to win in a combined time of 1 minute, 53.17 seconds, edging Latvia's Oskars Melbardis and Daumants Dreiskens by eight hundredths of a second.

Germany's Nico Walther and Joshua Bluhm were 0.24 seconds back in third, followed by Switzerland's Rico Peter and Janne Bror van der Zijde, and then Germany's Francesco Friedrich and Thorsten Margis.

After three of eight events, Melbardis and Dreiskens lead the standings on 645 points, ahead of Friedrich and Margis on 619. Hefti and Baumann are two points behind in third place.

The four-man's race was scheduled for Sunday.
