Skeleton World Cup race canceled in France

LA PLAGNE, France (AP) The women's race scheduled for Saturday in the skeleton Word Cup has been cancelled because of poor track conditions in the French Alps resort of La Plagne.

The international federation of bobsled and skeleton (FIBT) said in a statement that ''unacceptable track conditions'' forced the event to be scrapped.

The race was also set to count as the European championship and the FIBT will announce later whether it will be rescheduled.

The men's race, won by Martins Dukurs of Latvia on Friday, had to be shortened to one run because of the difficult track conditions.
