2013 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS DOWNHILL MEDALISTS
Gold, Aksel Lund Svindal, Norway. Silver, Dominik Paris, Italy. Bronze, David Poisson, France.
Kjetil Jansrud of Norway: He was a heavy favorite until he banged up his shoulder in a super-G race Thursday. The Norwegian team said he's all right and just sore. Jansrud has won three downhill races this season, including the one held at Beaver Creek in December.
Dominik Paris of Italy: Proven to be fast all season. He's second in the World Cup downhill standings behind Jansrud. Was runner-up in a Kitzbuehel downhill to Jansrud on Jan. 24.
Hannes Reichelt of Austria: Feels right at home on this difficult course. He won the super-G on Thursday and a World Cup competition in the discipline at this venue in December. His first-ever World Cup win was at Beaver Creek in 2005.
DON'T FORGET ABOUT
Matthias Mayer, Austria. He did capture the Olympic downhill gold at Sochi last February. He finished tied with Jansrud for fourth in the super-G.
Travis Ganong, United States. The skier from Squaw Valley, California, had his first World Cup downhill victory in Italy on Dec. 28.
''In events like this, you have to really risk everything and go for it and hope for the best.'' Steven Nyman of the U.S.
