SAYREVILLE, N.J. (AP) A New Jersey high school football program that had its season canceled amid hazing and sexual assault allegations is getting a new coach.
The Sayreville school board on Tuesday night approved Chris Beagan out of 45 applicants. The 1990 Sayreville graduate has been head coach at Monroe since 2008.
Beagan tells The Home News Tribune (http://mycj.co/1w2q7t9 ) he plans to meet soon with his new players.
Beagan replaces George Najjar, who was suspended with pay when officials began investigating his football program in October.
The team's 2014 season was canceled days before seven players were accused of hazing and sexually assaulting four teammates inside the locker room. The boys will be tried in juvenile court.
Najjar was transferred as a physical education teacher at the high school to an elementary school.
