Italian De Fabiani takes maiden cross-country WCup victory

LAHTI, Finland (AP) World Cup overall winner Marit Bjoergen of Norway showed her supremacy, winning the women's 10-kilometer classic race Sunday for her 92nd World Cup podium finish.

Bjoergen beat compatriot Heidi Weng by 17.3 seconds.

The world champion in the discipline, Sweden's Charlotte Kalla, took third, 25.3 behind Bjoergen. Norway's Therese Johaug, who won the season's three previous 10K classics, was fifth, behind yet another Norwegian, Astrid Uhrholt Jacobsen.

Earlier, Italian Francesco De Fabiani got his first World Cup win, finishing the men's 15-kilometer classic style race in 34 minutes, 51.2 seconds.

The 21-year-old racer left it late to overtake Alexey Poltoranin of Kazakhstan, who was three seconds back.

Finnish veteran Sami Jauhojarvi took third, 4.6 seconds behind De Fabiani.
