UNITED NATIONS (AP) The United Nations says it is reviewing its partnerships with FIFA and monitoring ''very carefully'' the large bribery and corruption scandal that has exploded around soccer's world governing body.
The spokesman for the U.N. secretary-general told reporters Thursday that the U.N. has not been contacted in any way related to the U.S. and Swiss federal investigations.
Stephane Dujarric says the U.N. has had a number of one-time partnerships with FIFA and that all have been pro bono. He says the U.N. does not have an exclusive partnership with the organization.
He says the partnerships are based on ''ensuring that the U.N.'s message on peace, on tolerance are seen and heard within these major sports events.''
