Three-time world champion Chan returns for 2015-16

Three-time world champion Patrick Chan of Canada will return to competitive skating during the 2015-16 Grand Prix season, beginning with Skate Canada in Lethbridge from Oct. 30-Nov. 1.

The 2014 Olympic silver medalist skipped last season. He also will skate at Trophee Bompard in Bordeaux, France.

Also returning after a year's layoff will be Olympic pairs champions Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov of Russia. They will skate at Trophee Bompard and at NHK Trophy in Nagano, Japan.

Another three-time world winner, Mao Asada of Japan, also is returning. Her events will be Cup of China in Beijing and NHK.

Men's Olympic gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan goes at Skate Canada and NHK. The other Olympic champions, Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White in dance, and Russia's Adelina Sotnikova, are not entered in any Grand Prix events.

Current men's world champ Javier Fernandez of Spain will skate at Cup of China and at Rostelecom Cup in Moscow. Women's world gold medalist Elizaveta Tutkamysheva of Russia goes at Skate Canada and Trophee Bompard.

World pairs titlists Meghan Duhamel and Eric Radford of Canada will compete in their home event, plus NHK. Ice dance world champs Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron of France are entered in their home event, plus NHK.

The series concludes with the Grand Prix Final in Barcelona, Spain, from Dec. 10-13. The top six in each category make the grade.

U.S. champion Ashley Wagner will make her Grand Prix appearances at Skate Canada and NHK. Men's champ Jason Brown will compete at Skate America in Milwaukee, and at NHK. Gracie Gold, who finished fourth at the Sochi Games, has entered Skate America and Trophee Bompard.

American ice dance champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates, who finished second at the 2015 worlds, have entered Skate America and Cup of China. U.S. pairs gold medalists Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierem will go at Skate America and NHK.

Sochi sensation Julia Lipnitskaia of Russia, who since has fallen behind several countrywomen, is scheduled to compete at Skate America from Oct. 23-25.
