Three-time Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings has had surgery on her dislocated right shoulder.
Dr. William Schobert operated on Walsh Jennings in Irvine, California, on Thursday.
Schobert said in a statement that Walsh Jennings' ability to return depends on her progress through rehab. But the goal of the schedule is to get her ready to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Walsh Jennings injured and reinjured her shoulder this year during tournaments. She continued to play after the second injury in order to remain on track for Olympic qualifying.
