US beats Iran to stay unbeaten at volleyball World Cup

OSAKA, Japan (AP) The United States rallied from a set down on Thursday to beat Iran 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21 and remain in first place at the men's volleyball World Cup.

Matt Anderson scored 19 points as the U.S. improved to 7-0 for 21 points, one ahead of Poland.

The Americans got off to a sluggish start and dropped their first set since the second match of the tournament against Japan. But Anderson closed out the second set with two powerful aces as the U.S. team seized momentum.

In other matches, Bartosz Kurek kept up his scoring pace with 14 points as Poland overpowered Egypt 25-20, 25-23, 25-18. Poland also improved to 7-0 but has conceded more sets.

Defending champion Russia coasted to a 25-21, 25-16, 25-19 win over Canada to stay in third place with a 6-1 record.
