American stars face stiff test from each other

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) The U.S. women's gymnastics team begins its quest for a third straight world title on Friday - and the best competition may come within the squad itself.

Two-time defending world champion Simone Biles, reigning Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas and three-time Olympic medalist will all compete in the all-around for the U.S.

The rules limit the Americans to sending only two gymnasts to the all-around finals, meaning one of the three U.S. stars will be forced to watch the finals from the stands.

U.S. national team coordinator Martha Karolyi says it's important for whoever comes up short to be resilient because they will be a vital part of the team's chase of another finish atop the podium.
