MONACO (AP) Jean Gracia, a former French track federation official, has been appointed as the IAAF's interim chief executive officer.
The IAAF says Gracia will also act as interim general secretary until a permanent appointment is made ''by the middle of the year.'' Gracia will be in charge of day-to-day operations at the IAAF's headquarters in Monaco.
IAAF president Sebastian Coe said Gracia ''brings vast experience'' and will help him in his work involving the IAAF executive board and council.
The new position has been created as part of reforms of the IAAF decided by Coe after he was elected president last year.
The 60-year-old Gracia has held various positions at the French federation since 1992 and is also a European Athletics vice president.
