The Olympic champion beat Akito Watabe of Japan in a similar scenario to Friday's race.

Frenzel, who was runner-up to Watabe after the ski jump, finished the 10-kilometer cross country in 23 minutes, 11.5 seconds, beating Watabe by 24.9 seconds.

It was the second stage of the Nordic Combined Triple, which adds the results of all three competitions this weekend with the overall winner earning double World Cup points.

The final event, with a 15K cross country race, is scheduled for Sunday.
