Graham Fach wins PBA Players to become 1st Canadian champion

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Graham Fach won the Barbasol Players Championship on Sunday to become the first Canadian champion in Professional Bowlers Association Tour history.

The 24-year-old left-hander from Guelph, Ontario, beat Ryan Ciminelli of Cheektowaga, New York, 279-244 in the title match in the major event at Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl.

Fach was making only his second PBA Tour start. He earned $40,000.

''It's a great feeling to win against players of this caliber,'' Fach said. ''They want to win, but obviously I want to win, too. I wasn't sure I would be able to compete out here, but the only way to find out is come out and try. Now at least the PBA staff knows who I am.''

Fach advanced to the final with a 247-244 victory over Australia's Sam Cooley.

Swedish two-hander Jesper Svensson opened the stepladder final with a 274-258 victory over Hall of Famer Norm Duke. In the second game, Cooley beat Svensson 246-206.
