SALZBURG, Austria (AP) The International Biathlon Union says Ukrainian athlete Artem Tyshchenko failed a doping test at an IBU Cup event in Arber, Germany last month.
The IBU says Tyshchenko's urine sample showed traces of meldonium, a hormone and metabolic modulator which was added to the WADA list of banned substances in January. The athlete waived his right to open the backup ''B'' sample.
The governing body, which provisionally suspended Tyshchenko last week without identifying him, has referred the case to its anti-doping hearing panel.
A two-time bronze medalist at the 2012 junior world championships, the 22-year-old Tyshchenko had his best World Cup result by placing third in a single mixed relay alongside Olympic relay champion Juliya Dzhyma in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, a year ago.
