Prezelj replaces Fredericks as athletes commission chairman

MONACO (AP) Former Olympic high jumper Rozle Prezelj has been elected new chairman of the IAAF's athletes commission, replacing former sprinter Frank Fredericks with immediate effect.

The 36-year-old Slovenian represented his country at three Olympic Games and four world championships before retiring two years ago.

Britain's marathon world record-holder Paula Radcliffe was nominated commission vice chairwoman, the track and field's governing body also said in a statement Saturday.

Prezelj said: ''I'm most gratified by this show of confidence from my fellow commission members for entrusting me with this big responsibility in these challenging times.''

Fredericks, from Namibia, said: ''It's been a pleasure to lead the commission working with my fellow members to help promote the needs of the world's clean athletes, which must be the IAAF's primary responsibility.''
